Our work

The nature of our modern world means shocks, stresses and crisis brought about by the interaction between climate change, ecosystem fragility, unplanned urbanization, political or financial instability reverberate globally.

Partners
Partners and stakeholders

Building resilience and promoting disaster risk reduction is a collective responsibility and challenge which calls for coordinated actions. UNDRR works closely at all levels with a wide variety of stakeholders towards a global and comprehensive effort in support of country-level actions.

Training - header
Training

Risk is everybody’s business. UNDRR cannot reduce risk alone. UNDRR’s Global Education and Training Institute (GETI), located in Incheon, Republic of Korea, works globally with governments, institutions, the private sector and civil society to build capacity to mainstream disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation into sustainable development.

Funding- header
Funding

Flexible funding is funding that is not earmarked for a specific geographic area or programme. It is vital as it enables UNDRR to effectively plan and allocate funds to strategic result areas based on requirements. In 2018, of the funding that was received, 24.1 million was earmarked and 16.7 million was unearmarked.

Voluntary commitments

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments online platform (VC platform) captures partner contributions towards Sendai Framework implementation, and fulfils the mandate given by the United Nations General Assembly. Whilst states have the primary responsibility to prevent and reduce disaster risk, an all-society approach is critical for reducing risk of and building resilience to disasters. We need to hear the voices of all relevant actors and recognize their expertise and contributions.
